Sewers generally rely on gravity to move the wastewater through the collection system, although force and pressure mains are used when topography or soil conditions are unfavorable for a gravity system An active sewer pipe will be captured along its centerline for the entire length of pipe until size or material changes, or until an intersection occurs with any point feature that participates in the geometric network (See Devices Thematic Group.) To abandon a sewer pipe, a five foot (5รข€™) gap will be introduced between the abandoned feature and any active features it had previously been connected to.
